Underrated Houseplants Everyone Should Own

I’ve been collecting for over a year now so I thought I’d share some of my top underrated houseplants everyone should own. During the pandemic, there was a huge surge in houseplant hobbyists and I was one of them.

Here you check out my houseplant setup.

And here are all my favorite products.

Alocasia Frydek

Alocasia Frydek

This has been one of my wish lists plants since I started. The large velvet leaves are so beautiful to me. The Frydek is definitely popular but for some reason is always passed up for more rare alocasias like the alocasia dragon scale and cupera. They like lots of humidity, bright indirect light, and really well-draining soil.

Shop My Favorites

Neon Pothos

I am a sucker for anything neon and the neon pothos are just gorgeous. I think it adds a beautiful pop of color to a room or in the middle of your plant shelf. They grow so fast like golden pothos and are extremely easy to propagate so you can have a nice full hanging pot in no time.

Philodendron Brasil

With so many types of philodendrons, I feel like the brasil is widely overlooked but one that should definitely be in your collection. The heartleaf shape with the pops of neon green stands out in any room. They are also incredibly easy to grow. They don’t need a ton of light or humidity and will let you know when to water them.

Philodendron Micans

Philodendron Micans

Micans have been extremely popular lately but have been on my list since the beginning. They have the most beautiful velvet green/red leaves and have been surprisingly easy to care for. I started this pot with two 4inch plants that weren’t full a couple of months ago and honestly been growing like a weed.

Majula Pothos

Manjula Pothos

Manjula can be on the pricey side of houseplants but I was able to score this plant at Walmart for under $5. I am definitely kicking myself for not picking up multiple because this has quickly become a favorite. I find that unless you are trying to collect all the pothos most people pass them up but this one is so beautiful. They are extremely easy to care for and have some of the most beautiful variegation.

Alocasia Regal Shield

This specimen does not do this plant justice. Sadly mine got taken down by a pine cone in a storm so definitely Google this plant. These have the most beautiful dark green leaves that have an iridescence to them. I love that they can be large indoor plants or huge outdoor plants if you have humidity. Mine has been growing extremely fast putting out a new leaf every other month.

Marble Snow Queen Pothos

Marble Snow Queen Pothos

Like the other pothos, I find a marble snow queen is fairly common but easily passed up. They are extremely easy to care for and gives you that gorgeous variegation without the price tag.

Hoya Obovata

Hoya Obovata

My Obovata has definitely seen better days. It got a little sunburned during our move so I had to cut off two large leaves but has a ton of new growth. I find this hoya underrated because it can seem plain with no variegation but a full pot of these large round leaves is a statement.

I really want to get into houseplants. I currently only have aloe and a snake plant.

Part of my problem is figuring out where I would put them where my dog wouldn’t eat them.
