DIY Sidewalk Chalk Paint

This DIY sidewalk chalk paint activity was super fun and honestly kept Ryan busy for quite a while. I think it took us close to 45 minutes to gather all the things we needed and make the paint, and then he played for like an hour. It was a win all the way around.

Activities like this are great for either taking your time and allowing your child to explore and work through the directions or a quick one you can throw together.

Sidewalk Chalk Paint Recipe

Supplies

  • Old/used/small bits of chalk (as you can see ours were pretty rough)
  • Bowls for each color
  • Hammer/mallet
  • Ziplock baggies
  • Squirt bottle or cup of water
  • Paint Brushes

Directions

First you’re going to sort all the chalk by color. Then with a hammer crush up the chalk into a fine powder. This is important because I thought the chalk would dissolve but it doesn’t…..

After that, you’re going to add water enough so that it is pretty liquidy. You can change it for your preference but I liked it a little more on the watery side because it was easier to paint with.

After that have fun and enjoy painting!

I hope you try out this DIY sidewalk chalk paint recipe. I’d to hear about it.
