How to Make a Christmas Playdough Kit

I made this Christmas playdough kit for Ryan’s December first box and he has been using it every day since. The playdough is no longer red and green but a weird brown color. I had plans to share some holiday/winter-themed activities this week but Ryan has just not been interested in doing any of them. Sometimes that happens and that’s ok. We have been playing lots of Hot Wheels, trains, and monster trucks so I thought I would share this playdough kit instead.

This playdough kit was a huge success. Ryan played with it for hours over multiple days so I think I’ll throw one of these together every couple of months. And you can easily swap the playdough for slime, kinetic sand, or anything else.

What You Need For Your Christmas Playdough Kit

I really wanted to buy Ryan a Christmas playdough kit from one of those companies that make them. They look so creative and fun but after shipping, I couldn’t justify paying almost $50 right before Christmas. So instead I ventured to Hobby Lobby to make one.

In case you didn’t know they have a huge holiday craft section that is always 50% percent off. I picked up some bells, mini trees, mini cookie cutters, some snowflakes, and golden stars. I looked for a cheap holiday plastic container to put it all in but they didn’t have any. So, dinosaurs to the rescue. I also invested ($3) in the containers to hold the playdough. Now I can have my Tupperware back that’s currently holding our playdough.

I made the playdough because making playdough is beyond easy and cheap but you can also just pick up some containers of playdough.

The playdough mat is from Stephanie Groves at The Everyday Planner. It is absolutely beautiful. I printed it out and laminated it. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find it in her Etsy store but I’ll link it here because she has a bunch of other beautiful learning resources.
